Old Operating Theatre Museum

Europe's oldest surviving operating theatre, from 1822, hidden in the roof space of a church.

45 min£

The operating theatre dates from before anaesthesia, when operations were performed in a few minutes in front of spectators. The wooden benches for students still stand in a semicircle around the table. In the garret, where herbs were once dried, dried plants and old medical instruments hang. Easy to combine with Borough Market and the Shard, just a few steps away.
