The church was badly hit in the Blitz; only the outer walls and Christopher Wren’s tower survived. Today climbing plants wind through the Gothic windows, and the floor of the church is covered with lawn, trees and a small fountain. The spot is popular with photographers but is most atmospheric early in the morning or in light rain. Benches invite you to take a short break in the middle of the City.
St Dunstan-in-the-East was a Church of England parish church on St Dunstan's Hill, halfway between London Bridge and the Tower of London in the City of London. The church was largely destroyed in the Second World War and the ruins are now a public garden maintained by the City of London Corporation.
